Slot Receiver Nfl Best
Shortly after the New York Giants shipped wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. off to the Cleveland Browns, they attempted to replace some of his production with veteran Golden Tate.
Upon signing with the Giants however, there seemed to be some confusion about his fit given the presence of Sterling Shepard, who is another very talented slot receiver.
Despite the potential positional conflict — something the Giants, Tate and Sherpard have all downplayed — Dour Farrar of Touchdown Wire recently named Tate one of the league’s best slot receivers.
9. Golden Tate, New York Giants
After trading Odell Beckham, Jr. to the Browns, Giants general manager Dave Gettleman tried a little damage control by signing Tate to a four-year, $37.5 million contract with $22.95 million guaranteed. Tate doesn’t have Beckham’s mercurial explosiveness, but he’s been one of the more prolific slot receivers of his era, and he’s especially effective after the catch. Tate played for the Lions and Eagles last season, and though it took him a while to find his schematic fit in Philly, he still managed 74 catches for 795 yards and four touchdowns. Expect a lot more than that in a Giants offense that has little to recommend in the quarterback department—Tate is an easy first-read dump-off target if we’ve ever seen one.
As you’d expect from a YAC monster throughout his career, Tate is a very physical player. Built like a running back, he challenges cornerbacks with his upper-body strength at the line of scrimmage, and he’s eager to a fault when it comes to giving press coverage back within the first five yards of a route. He’s also learned to work option routes at all areas of the field, and though he won’t make anyone forget Beckham, he brings a lot to the table in a favorable offense.
Beasley is one of the best slot receivers in the league, and he’s been open on 77.1% of his targets over the past two years — the best rate in the league. The top three should have distinct roles, as should Isaiah McKenzie, who ranked third in the league with 120 yards on screens last season. Crowder’s ability in the slot made him even more valuable, though, and his production ranked among the best in the NFL at the receiver position. Adam Gase used Crowder the best of the Jets.
A few weeks ago Around the NFL writer Chris Wesseling did an analysis of the best slot receivers across the league – Cole was 10th. Here’s what the players on that list have done this season. At the midway point of the 2020 season, Adams has crafted a convincing case as the game’s premier receiver. Consider the following: – Adams ranks first in the NFL in receptions per game (8.8), receiving yards per game (112.5), receiving touchdowns per game (1.33) and receiving first downs per game (6.0). The Arizona Cardinals have one of the league’s best receivers in the game in DeAndre Hopkins. In terms of outside receivers, Touchdown Wire ranks him third in the league. The Cardinals also have.

Somewhat interestingly, Shepard did not make Farrar’s list of the NFL’s top 11 slot receivers. However, as the writer alludes, Tate could be uniquely set up to have a career year in 2019 simply because of Eli Manning’s propensity dump the ball off.
